Each year, more than 700,000 people gather along the banks of the Aude River to witness the spectacular fireworks display on July 14th in Carcassonne. This pyrotechnic show begins at 10:30 PM and lasts for over 25 minutes, lighting up the sky with brilliant colors of blue, white, yellow, green, red, and gold, culminating in an impressive grand finale with over 1,200 explosions in 6 seconds across 600 meters of façade.
The show is free, with no grandstands or reserved seating. To fully enjoy this experience and avoid parking issues, it is recommended to arrive in Carcassonne by late morning or early afternoon. Large paid parking lots are available near the Medieval Citadel. From there, it's about a 20-minute walk to the city center, where the fireworks can be admired from the banks of the Aude River or the bridges crossing it, offering a magnificent view of the illuminated Citadel.
